MOrgan Tanner

2020 marks Morgan Tanner’s 5th year participating in The Holiday Home Tour.

Morgan was born and raised in White Rock/South Surrey and continues to maintain strong ties to the community. “The HHT is a great way to help raise awareness and funds while putting a creative spin on fundraising that donates directly back to our home community. We all have someone in our life that has been directly affected by a serious illness. The HHT is a way for our community to come closer together during times of need and support one another.”

Morgan puts a spin on the Holiday Home Tour with his diverse background in film, television and live event production. With large scale projects under his belt such as; The 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics Opening and Closing Ceremonies, The 2017 Solidarity Games Opening and Closing Ceremonies in Baku, Azerbaijan, and most recently The 48th National Day Celebration Ceremony, in Abu Dhabi, UAE., and with a multitude of film and television experience Morgan combined his studies in interior design to create a captivating winter wonderland for this year’s HHT Magazine.

“2020 has been an interesting year for everyone, and with the holidays quickly approaching and ever-changing restrictions of gatherings and celebrations I wanted to create a space that was both intimate and cozy. This design could be used for different small gatherings throughout the holiday season.” With a colour palette taken from a glass of champagne, Morgan’s wanted to take guests on a journey the moment they arrived at this magnificent home.

As guests arrive at the home, they are welcomed immediately by a scene set with champagne, candlelight, furs, and florals in the porte-cochere and surrounding the front door. Guests then move into the home and an overflowing champagne welcome table in the foyer. As guest make their way into the great room where the centred Grande piano that is adorned with a sweeping garland of fresh florals and candlelight. Guests are able to toast by the fire or sip cocktails surrounding the piano while holiday favourites are played. The dining table for these celebrations has been taken to the covered outdoor dining space. “When I did the first walkthrough of the home and saw that I was able to completely open up the wall between the great room and the outdoor dining space, answering all my gathering restriction questions.” The dining table is surrounded by sparkling trees and candlelight, creating a cozy and warm outdoor space. The continued colour palette of white, green with touches of blush help create a wintery wonderland atmosphere. Bringing in different textures with greenery, furs (faux of course!) Glassware and flames from the fire all help create a space made for celebrating with family and close friends.

“I would like to thank the committee of the Holiday Home Tour for inviting me to participate once again this year. All of you put such remarkable efforts into creating a yearly event and now this publication. It is truly an honour to be a part of creatively giving back to a community that I am proud to call home.”

The Grieve Family

The Grieve Family

Kyley Grieve

Hyline Construction founders Ryan & Kyley Grieve grew up in South Surrey/White Rock. While school and career endeavours periodically moved them away from the peninsula, they always knew they’d come back to their hometown.

Before Hyline’s inception, they were living in New York City and working for an international retailer. Ryan was leading the construction of their US Concept Store in West Hollywood, California, as well as their Flagship Boutique and Design Studio in Manhattan. Kyley was running their Manhattan showroom as Operations Manager and Executive Assistant to the President.

Upon the completion of the construction projects, which were published in The New York Times, Harpers Bazaar and Interior Design Magazine among others, Ryan & Kyley made the decision to move home and return to their roots of designing and building premium custom homes, and incorporated Hyline in 2009.

Their mission was to create exceptional custom residences and high impact commercial spaces. Ever mindful of the significant social and environmental impact of each project, they embraced their responsibility to contribute to a more vibrant and sustainable community.

For the nearly 12 years since, they have managed their company with a community-focused mindset. By reinvesting their time and money into their community through volunteering in several neighbourhood-building programs, and by making charitable giving a priority, all while maintaining a steady sustainability stride, they have aspired to embody a socially responsible framework.

As return sponsors of the Holiday Home Tour for Hope, Ryan and Kyley continue to align their goals with teams that share their values.

To support other small businesses in the community, they consciously seek to team up with local entrepreneurs. They have been thrilled with this first collaboration with Ashley Okazaki Interiors on the styling of their home for the HHT. Upon recognizing a shared vision of accountability, authenticity, and work ethic, plans are already underway to undertake an upcoming project together.

I was born and raised on the North Shore so naturally I have deep roots in that community. Consequently, moving our family to South Surrey three years ago to build our new home felt like a big leap. My husband Jeff was born and raised in South Surrey so he assured me I’d love it. He was right. I've never felt happier and more at home than I do here. This community has embraced me personally and professionally, and to be able to raise our kids in such a supportive and generous environment is incredible. Our third child was born at Surrey Memorial and received such wonderful care there. The opportunity to be part of the Holiday Home Tour and give back to the hospital and this great community is an absolute joy.

I absolutely love participating in this wonderful event! This is my third year involved with the ‘Holiday Home Tour for Hope’ and it gives me the chance to bring a smile to someone’s face and express my own creativity while giving back to my community. For me, community means taking care and being there, for one another. This year, more than ever I feel a greater responsibility to give back and support our local charities because of the impact Covid-19 has had on people and the economy.

For the 2020 magazine, the ‘Magnolia Boutique Gardening’ team Louise Sheridan, Bonnie Zinger, Umi Hassanspent several days foraging (for fresh evergreens) and making all of our garlands and wreath by hand, for a traditional old fashioned Christmas.

Jen & Nicole

The Designory House is an interior design studio located in White Rock, BC. The DH aesthetic is inspired by natural materials, neutral color pallets and modern elements. Owners and principal designers Jen O’Donnell and Nicole Morrison partnered with Shelley DeGroot from Flowers and Company to create a natural and organic Christmas setting. Using fresh greenery and incorporating simple winter inspired items throughout the home, they were able to maintain a relaxed, minimalist and cozy atmosphere. Participating in the Holiday Home tour this year was especially important to Jen and Nicole. It was an opportunity to help give back to the community as 2020 has been a difficult year for many. They wanted to not only show their appreciation for the continued support they have received being small business owners but also raise awareness and money for this important cause knowing it helps local families and friends directly.

Wendy Smith - Interior Concepts & MaryLou Wilmot

A chance meeting at the Cactus Club over ten years ago brought these two like minded designers together. Wendy, a published interior designer had decorated a home for the Starship Hospital Christmas Tour while living in New Zealand and these ladies have brought the same cozy casual feel to all their Holiday Home Tour homes. It is all about creating a welcoming space for family and friends to gather using soft tones, natural materials, and an abundance of everything that speaks to your favourite winter memories. Their goal has always been to inspire the tour visitors to think, “Oh, I could do that!” and working with local décor and gift store, Ambiente means there is no shortage of beautiful pieces to make that happen.
